Amy Weber's parents started their own molding company from nothing, and business is still going strong after 36 years. Weber said they instilled in her what an honest day's work means.

She started working part time after school at her father's tool shop as a delivery driver.

"Once I got into plastics, I never left. One of my grandfathers worked at a rubber molding facility, and my other grandfather worked at Phillips 66," she said. "I guess you could say I was born into the industry."

Weber studied business at the College of the Mainland in Texas. She worked for Coastal Plastic Molding Inc. before joining resin distributor Amco Polymers, where she is now a sales development manager in Houston. Weber manages the inside sales department, and she trains new sellers that start in inside sales and eventually transition to outside sales.

"I've been able to work on so many interesting projects throughout my career, from pharmaceutical to filtration and computer components," she said.

Now, Weber's own daughter is part of the plastics industry.

"I know this business has endless opportunities, and as much time as she spent with me at work growing up, I hope she is one step ahead," Weber said.

"I continually want to see women break through in this industry," she added. "When I entered plastics, I was one of very few females in sales in the injection molding side of the business. My daughter has also entered this industry; I would love to see more female role models for her to look up to."

Q: What emerging technology or market most interests you?

Weber: I have to say I enjoy businesses participating in social media outlets. I think it is not only great advertisement but a real way to showcase staff. I believe social media such as LinkedIn can put a personal touch on businesses and allows people to see who they are working with.

Q: What job do you really want to have in the future?

Weber: I absolutely love what I do now. I would love to stay in my position for several more years bringing in young talent and mentoring them.

Q: What's an accomplishment of yours that most people don't know about, either for work or in your personal life?

Weber: A personal achievement for me was in 2014 I traveled to Tanzania by myself and summited Mount Kilimanjaro.
